Mission Statement

Having been awakened to the Compassion of Amida Buddha's Universal Vow (Namo Amida Butsu) and rejoicing in the assurance of Buddhahood, we gratefully endeavor to live a life of service to others.

Welcome

With over 500+ member families, the Hilo Betsuin's members enjoy a large array of activities and events that bring together families and friends to work and play together. Our Jodo Shinshu Teachings reflect on living and spreading the Dharma. By following the Eight-fold Path and embracing the Four Noble Truths, members learn to  live each day fully and richly.

Our Sangha includes the following temple organizations: the Kyodan Council, Board of Buddhist Education, Board of Trustees and Board of Spiritual Affairs. Our Affiliate Groups include the Buddhist Women's Association (BWA), Young Buddhist Association (YBA), the Jr. YBA, Hoyukai, Judo, 4-H, Gakuen, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Kyodan Choir and Pre-School.

All are invited to participate in our activities!  Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin welcomes everyone!
